The University Wind Ensemble and Chamber Players were invited to perform at the 2013 Jungfrau Music Festival in Interlaken, Switzerland July 7 through July 15.
In addition to their gala concert performances on July 9th and 10th, they were also selected as the participant ensemble for the Festival’s Conducting Masterclasses with Maestro Douglas Bostock, Principal Conductor of the Aargau Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland and Principal Guest Conductor of internationally renowned Czech Chamber Philharmonic.
“…a once in a life time experience to learn in my college years just how universal the language of music really is. The energetic response from the audience after the Gala performance at the Jungfrau Festival was heartwarming…”
Samantha Holman, principal clarinet
“The whole experience for me was affirmation… I was fortunate to come to U of L when I did.”
Don Woods, principal trumpet
“Sitting center stage on the Puckett, looking up at Dr. Speck’s silhouette against the dimly lit hall in these moments of intense concentration and music making were particularly striking. Similarly, on the Husa, the sensation of every member of the ensemble becoming synced and focused as we moved toward the end made for another. I’ll never forget the anticipation before the last movement…”
Tyler Taylor, principal horn
“I am deeply grateful to you and all members of the Wind Ensemble for performing my Music for Prague 1968 at such an important Jungfrau Festival.”
Karel Husa, composer
“…great preparation,discipline and flexibility…”
Maestro Douglas Bostock
