AUDITIONS
The audition process includes the following two steps:
Step 1: Complete the LYWS Application by Friday, September 27, 2024.
Step 2: Submit a video recorded audition of the required materials by Friday, October 4, 2024. Submission links will be emailed on September 28, 2024 to those who have submitted a complete application.
MUSIC:
The LYWS uses the Kentucky Music Educators Association All-State Band Audition etudes. Please use the following link to access the two-octave chromatic scale requirements.
Students in Kentucky should access the audition music through their band director in early August when the excerpt examples for the new academic year are announced. Students out-of-state or homeschooled should email Adam Thomas, Administrative Specialist, for audition information at adam.thomas@louisville.edu
ORDER OF RECORDED VIDEO CONTENT:
1. INTRODUCTION: State your name, instrument, and high school.
2. SCALE: Play your required scale (two-octave chromatic)
3. ETUDE: Play your required etudes/excerpts
CREATING THE AUDITION VIDEO:
1. Once your application is completed, you will be sent an audition application link.
2. Record your audition materials on an iPhone or smart phone device. You do not need professional recording equipment.
3. Make sure you and your instrument are fully seen on the video frame.
4. Your video must be recorded in one take with no editing (This may take several attempts until you are satisfied with your full, unedited video performance).
5. Check the audio level to ensure good balance of volume throughout your performance and to avoid distortion.
6. Upload your video recording to a video storage platform such as YouTube or Vimeo.
7. Submit your video via the LYWS audition application link. Make sure the video is “viewable” to others prior to submitting the link. The application form cannot be completed without a link to the video.
